Is Lamictal approved for longterm treatment of bipolar?

I take Lamictal for treating bipolar disorder almost 4 years. I tried to get things, but withdrawal symptoms are unbearable. This and the fact that nothing else seems to work. I know that few drugs are approved for use in the longer term. Does anyone know if Lamictal is one of them? If I do not get it, how much damage my system? What other problems with Lamictal cause long-term use? Webmd.com I looked and it is a treatment for bipolar disorder, admitted, among other things, but he said not long term. I do not know whether it helps or not. I took Lamictal for five years. I do not know how long "long term, but I've never heard anything like my psychiatrist.
